I must be doing something incorrectly. I just use lyrics and chord sheets. I occasionally have to insert chords using the text tool. I occasionally have difficulties entering chords because the last one I entered disappears when I back out or change tools. For instance, C G Am F is a simple example.

If you create the text annotation, after you finish editing, tap outside the annotation to commit the change, then tap the X at the top left. That should be all you need to do to save the changes. If you still run into problems, let me know.
