This may just be me, but some features are very hard for me to get to because they are 

Touch this area of the screen

and when I touch the screen, nothing happens.  

My touch screen does work hardware-wise.  I also use an advanced precision stylus (non-electronic)

I've had no problems - but I use a fat finger.

When this next happens, check you haven't accidently turned on performance mode as this disables most touch actions.
To disable performance mode, tap bottom right of screen and deselect the centre lock symbol (it is orange when selected)
