Best tablet for sunny conditions? - bazza - 03-19-2025

I have an e-reader tablet (Onyx Boox 2) with a 'paper'-style screen for use in outdoor situations when the sun makes an ordinary tablet impossible to read.  MobileSheets has a version that works on it, but it is extremely slow to respond to instructions - such as change page, find listed items, and so forth. Maybe tablets made for reading books don't need to operate as quickly as other devices, but it a gig situation it's a real frustration.  Has anyone found an e-reader tablet that works as speedily and efficiently as a conventional one? Any recommendations?

I have three Onyx tablets - the Onyx Max 2 Pro, the Onyx Lumi and the Onyx BOOX Tab X. The Lumi and Tab X are significantly faster than the Max 2 Pro and the app feels much better on them. Having said that, the app was perfectly usable for me on the Max 2 Pro without significant delays in triggering functionality.

Thanks, Mike.  Useful information.

The Onyx e-reader tablets Mike refers to are around the £400 price range, give or take. Does anyone have experience of any that cost a bit less, but which respond quickly to instructions (navigating/page-turning) and are clear to read?

I just got the Onyx Boox Air 2 Plus for £325. It works just fine with mobile sheets but it took quite a bit of setting up.
I needed to adjust a lot of settings, mainly to get it scrolling smoothly and quickly. Also you have to add all your Apps, like email. Now it's up and running it links easily to my phone and Lenovo tablet.
It's perfect to use either in bright sunlight or after dark. Highly recommended if you play outdoors.
