Does MS add any metadata to mp3 files?
#1
Hi,

If mp3 files that I have backed up outside of the MS folder are compared with mp3 files inside MS,
the lengths are not equal. All mp3 files inside MS are slightly longer than the original files.

I didn't change any of the files, so am wondering how these changes have taken place.
By just checking one file, it seems a comment section has been added to the metadata in the MS version of the file.

Could MS have added these changes?
The other possibility of course, is that Windows itself has modified the files.
I don't remember ever using other programs to play these files other than a small mp3 player that I have been using for ages.

Does anyone have any information regarding such a situation?
It creates problems when comparing folders on a different tablet and/or computer to make sure both are the same.
I do have MS on an Android tablet, but the files were copied from the windows computer and not form the backup.

Sincerely,
Dan

MobileSheets does not currently modify mp3 files itself in any way. It will use the standard Microsoft framework classes to access audio file properties to read out the duration, and the duration is reported as 0 using that approach, it falls back to a library called TagLib to read the information. So I have to assume Windows must have modified the files in some way... I'm not sure how else to explain it. I will run some tests though just to confirm this.

I just added an mp3 file to a song, played the audio file, then compared the original audio file to the one in the storage location. Both files match exactly. So MobileSheets is not modifying mp3 files on Windows. If there is any other test you want me to run, let me know.

Much thanks, Mike.

That is what I suspected. It is likely Windows doing this.
I'll research it more, just leave it for now.
I'll post if I find anything to explain this.
