13" tablet music stands
#1
I know it's been mentioned in a couple of older threads, but are there any new developments on finding (commercially available) stands that work on 13.3" tablets?
Ideally I would like a folding stand that I could slip in my bag to take anywhere, but I'd also be happy to find something that sits atop of a microphone stand.

That's only the stand, you would still need the tablet holder to fit to it.  Looks to me as though there's little (if any) change out of $100) and I'm not sure if any of their tablet holders will suit a 13" tablet.

I still like this.

If you just carry this without the mic stand (for example, if there are plenty of mic stands at the venue), I think it's pretty portable (but, then you have to screw it in each time). If you add velcro to the face of the tablet holder and the tablet, it's been very stable for me (and the price is pretty good).

Graeme, if you would read only 1st sentence:

STAND was mentioned 3 (three) times. Including subject.

Anyway there is bunch of HOLDERS to screw on top of mentioned stand which is new, folding and easy to slip into a bag:

Graeme, if you would read only 1st sentence:
Well, I did - and I went to look at the GoStand.  However, the OP asked for something that would hold a 13" tablet and this means the GoStand would need a suitable tablet holder in addition to the stand. Hence my comment.
In fact, reading the OP, he was implying that it was the holder that was more important .... "but I'd also be happy to find something that sits atop of a microphone stand."

When I said STAND, I was implying a "TABLET STAND", that is, something specifically designed to hold the tablet. Not just the tripod with a pole. That's easy.
I've got a nice metal Manhasset stand as well as a cheap wire stand and a nice Peak folding stand...all of them are great for their purpose (sheet music), but that's not what I need now.

schnautza:

The simple fact is that a tripod base is the most stable and that is why most music stands, mic stands, etc., have one.

Quite honestly, I'm not really sure what you are asking for, or expecting to find. There is a whole host of tablet holders and stands on the market, unfortunately many of them are not suitable for 13"+ tablets. I had the same problem, but decided that I would continue to use my existing music stand. I reckoned to have saved more than enough space/weight by getting rid of all the paper charts to not have to worry about shrinking the stand as well - expecially as the purpose-built units seem to sell at a high premium.

Let me break it down again what I am looking for, I thought I was quite clear. I have three different types of music stands that work well for sheet music, but I fear them getting knocked over with a tablet on them.

I'm wanting a full stand, that is, it sits on the ground and has a built-in connection to a 13" tablet at the top. I don't care what the base looks like, but prefer it to fold up to transport easily.

If that full assembly doesn't exist, I'm looking for a top attachment that can be connected to a generic mic stand or to a music stand with the shelf removed.

So far, nobody has posted anything that is proven to work with a tablet as large as 13" (from what I can tell), and that is what I'm looking for. I've seen links for ipads and such, but we are not talking about an ipad, we are talking about a bigger tablet than that.

Hopefully that clarifies what I'm looking for.

If your only concern is the tablet being knocked off the stand, you should just put velcro tape on the tablet and the stand. Then it will be very stable.

If course, if your concern is the entire stand being knocked over, there is nothing (short of cementing the stand to to floor) that will be guaranteed to prevent that from happening.

Your Manhasset stand is probably pretty heavy duty. So, it shouldn't be knocked over too easily (and if the tablet is velcro'd onto the stand, it should not be knocked off the stand).

I hope this helps.

Of course, if you want something that does not block you as much as the Manahsset stand, I like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OR7...detailpage

Agreed, there's no reason why the OP can't use his existing stand.  I did much the same here - http://zubersoft.com/mobilesheets/forum/...p?tid=1672 - and saved some money into the bargain.

Well, in my case I wanted a smaller stand that did not block me/my face quite so much.  Since you do not need the space on the stand for a second page, I figured I would rather have a narrower stand.

I use the Airturn Manos for my 13,3" tablet and it works.
The manos sits on top of a mic stand. My has a tripod (because I am 188cm I wanted to have a larger one, e.g. if I have to stand on a podium where the stand has to be on the floor).

A collegue of mine trusts this setup (tripod) as much that he hangs his two instruments (trumpet, flugelhorn) on the stand.

That I can understand.  In my case, I utilise the 'spare' space by placing a small mixer on it (you can see his in one of the pictures in the link I gave earlier) but not everyone would want to do that.

Even so, I don't have a problem with the stand blocking me/my face as I position it to the left of me - it's not in front of me at all, even though I am usually seated.  This is something that using a tablet allows for, I find that it's no longer necessary to have the chart directly in front of me, with paper it was different.

In your case, I think the Stagg MUS-ARM 1 that was linked to earlier in this thread is probably the answer.  If the desk is removable from your Manhassett stand (the pictures on their website would seem so) then you already have a suitable support of the Stagg.

I see that Manhassett also make a tablet holder - the Model #3200-U - although they only claim it for tablets of up to 12.5", so you would have to check the actual dimensions of your tablet to ensure it would hold it securely.

Thanks for the responses - to clarify my Manhasset stand is this one:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/M...oCQ-rw_wcB

It's not exactly the type of stand I'd want to lug around to every rehearsal/gig.

I've given some thought to the Velcro idea, and that might be the best idea for my church, where I can have my own designated stand with velcro on it. However, this doesn't help with my brass band rehearsals in which we use a bunch of school music stands. This is where a nice compact collapsible (read: easily portable) stand would come in handy.

I like what I'm seeing on this link for the Manhasset 3200-U holder:
http://www.interstatemusic.com/966372-Ma...3200U.aspx

I assume that this is just the top portion, and the foldable stand is sold separately. All I'm seeing on sizes is it "fits all sizes"...so I'm not sure how big "all sizes" encompasses. My tablet (with case) is 13.5" in height.
