Windows 7, SP1 (Home Premium) ... I completely uninstalled and used your link to reinstall .NET (one last time). I didn't let the Windows Update download/install the .NET patches, but tried to install the Companion App and ... IT WORKED THIS TIME (I didn't do anything different from my previous attempts)! I then let the patches install and started the Companion App without any problems. Being a system administrator, this sounds like a problem with Windows to me.
