Oops, i spoke too soon.
I've been using MobileSheets Pro app itself to view the PDF with its embedded annotations and that's where I noticed the problem. I'll attach some screenshots to show you what I'm talking about.
First one is before embedding the annotations.

2nd one is after embedding. Notice how the bold one retained its integrity
