I suggest that before performing each manual update, you also perform a backup operation; this means that you have something to restore should something go wrong (it has been known for updates to corrupt the database).

While one can perform a backup using the app, I prefer to do this via the Companion app. This means the backup is stored on the pc rather than on the tablet (then have the copy on a separate device should something happen to the tablet e.g. dropped or stolen).
