To simplify editing, it's possible to assign a quick action to a screen location. You can assign 2 fingers, 3 fingers, but nothing to directly indicate an edit mode if you have a stylus in your hand (Passive). 

Would it be possible to create a specific shortcut: "Circling" on the screen means switching to edit mode, because then you have a stylus in your hand, and 2-3 finger actions are impractical. Furthermore, the "click on an area" mode has a drawback with the stylus: you often start editing accidentally... 

There should be a specific action that opens editing, ignoring the first action for 1 second. Circling with a stylus makes sense, regardless of how precise it is.
Of course, other "squiggles" are possible, like simulating an eraser or a multi-scratch, but could it be more difficult to explain?

I have switched on the option that the stylus activates edit mode automatically when touching (or nearing) the screen. Then it exists edit mode automatically after 10 seconds (default 5 seconds is too short for me). Would that satisfy your use case?

It needs an ACTIVE stylus, if you read my suggestion.
Lot of people, like me, heate active stylus, because need of charge and for an occasional notation it is enough th have a normal pen vith a screen device on the back.

FWIW the stylus that came with my Boox TabX has no cable, battery or charging port.  Instead it is a Wacom style EMR pen that is powered by a magnetic field generated by the screen.  It works perfectly well with this option and enters annotation mode with both proximity or a touch.

So, it your tablet can support a Wacom EMR stylus then you're set to enjoy the best of both worlds.

The question is : having an otomatic stard of edit mode with passiv pen, like your finger !

You can also set a touch action to trigger the annotations editor. So you would then only need to tap a corner with your finger or stylus to enter annotation mode. That seems like a better option in my mind.

Yes, I did it allready, with som deagrements, but, it could be a nice and logical improvement in the future ?
I know you have a lot of demands...

It's quite tedious to track stylus input over time to then try to figure out if all of the points the user generated looks like that of a circle, and only then trigger the annotations editor (and I would have to keep collecting input until they lift the stylus before triggering this). It's not impossible to do this - but I would definitely want to hear from a fair number of users that this would be beneficial over the existing features before tackling it, as there are a lot of other higher priority requests.
