When I import files for a gig, it always follows the same pattern: (1) from Google Drive or Whatsapp, open a pdf, jpeg or png file into MobileSheets, (2) edit the title, (3) select Collection, (4) select Setlist. Repeat 10-15 times.
From that process, steps 3 and 4 could be eliminated after the first importing, if the Collection and Setlist fields defaulted to the previously used ones. I would be happy if the defaults stayed put even for 5 or 10 minutes, and then they could reset to empty again.
A separate, but frequently occurring thing with the importing process is, multiple pages belonging to the same tune are sent to me as separate files, and combining these into one single MobileSheets song entry is a hassle.

Have you tried batch importing?
Alternatively, if you have a windows pc, try the companion program - you can drag multiple files fropm google drive to the companion and it will put them in your required collction and/or setlist.

I use an Android tablet, but maybe I should lug a laptop as well, to get files into Mobile Sheets? "Mobile" Sheets. If I multi-select files in Google Drive, there's no "open with" function, which I use to take files into Mobile Sheets.

Sorry, just tried it and you are right in that you can't drag from Google Drive (you can only drag into it).
What you can do is download each song you are interested in to your pc (or your tablet). i.e. you are preaparing the files to load them in a single operation.
Having downloaded the required files to pc, use drag and drop to copy them into the companion (or use it's batch import)
You could also use MS batch import of files that you have downloaded to your tablet.
I'm not quite sure why you would do this on a regular basis - the normal method of working is to import all your songs onto the tablet and you can then use the collections/setlists capabilities without having to import the songs each time (obviously, you would have to "swap files" if you have an update to one of the files already on the tablet).

Maybe I live in a culture that you don't find normal or acceptable. I don't play "my" songs or "our" songs, I play "their" songs and it's always a different set of tunes, none of which is practically ever played again. I did start importing all songs in the world, but then something came up and I had to stop.

If you tap Import->Google Drive, you can select multiple files, then enter a collection and/or setlist and those metadata values will be applied to all the songs that are created at once. The same is true if you use Import->Batch Import.
Please keep it respectful - Geoff was just trying to help you and you lashed out for no reason that I can see. He was just commenting on what he thinks the normal workflow is.
