Problem Import via WhatsApp / Problem import via WhatsApp
#1
english below

Hallo zusammen,

Hello everyone,

I received a .msf file via WhatsApp from a colleague. He sent it directly from MobileSheets through WhatsApp to me.
When I click on this file in WhatsApp, I get the following error message: "You might not have an appropriate app installed to view this content."

I have both WhatsApp and MobileSheets installed on my tablet.

How can I resolve this issue?

Does anyone have an idea how I can best get the file from WhatsApp onto my tablet to use it in MobileSheets?

I also tried to save the file locally and then open it with MobileSheets, but that doesn't work either.
WhatsApp only offers the "Share" option, and neither MobileSheets nor my file explorer appear as options.
When I select Google Drive, it saves the file, but Google Drive then shows "This file type is not supported."
If I try to open the file with "Open with," it says "No preview available," and I can't proceed further.

My two colleagues experience the same issue, so it's unlikely to be a hardware problem.

Our goal: We are a band and want to send sheet music to each other.

Thank you very much in advance!

You need to be able to download the file into your tablet storage, then use Import->Local File in MobileSheets and select the .msf file you downloaded. That should get around the issue WhatsApp is reporting. It's just not correctly detecting that MobileSheets can handle that file type I believe. The fact that you can't just save the file onto the device is a problem. Can you not just share the file using Google Drive without using WhatsApp? You could also email the file if it's below 20 MB. Regardless, I'll have to look into the WhatsApp issue, but if I tap on a .msf file using a file manager, it correctly detects that MobileSheets can load that file. So this seems like a WhatsApp problem to me if other apps are handling a custom file type correctly.

On a side note, if you were able to upload the file to Google Drive successfully, just tap Import->Google Drive in MobileSheets and then select the .msf file. It seems like that should work just fine (don't try to load the file through Google Drive).

I just installed WhatsApp, sent a file, tapped that file and immediately saw the option to open it in MobileSheets. So I have no idea why you are unable to open the file in MobileSheets. It might be worth backing up your library in MobileSheets under Settings->Backup and Restore->Backup Library, uninstall the app, reinstall it, maybe uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp and see if that fixes the issue. As far as I can see, it's working as I would expect.

The option to open it is there, but mobilesheets will not open it. It says "Unsupported file type selected.
Please select one of the supported
types such as PDF".. Same if you send an setlist mss file.
I tried it a while ago

I tapped the .msf file, and it imported into MobileSheets without an error. So that is not what I experienced. It may depend on the Android OS version and the launcher that is being used on the device. If you are seeing that on your Samsung S7 FE device, then I don't have an explanation, as I tested on my Samsung S8 Ultra which should be very similar to the S7 FE, although the S8 Ultra has Android 15 instead of Android 12.

Ok. I was not aware that it could be a launcher related Problem.
Seems to be the nova launcher causing this Problem.
Thanks for that hint.

Sure thing! Launchers can have a huge impact on how Intents are handled (the request one app makes to have a different app on the device handle the file).

Unfortunately, I'm still stuck.

I’ve now managed to upload the file I received via WhatsApp to Google Drive. In the browser on my PC, I can find the file in Google Drive.
However, when I go to "Import" and then "Drive" in MobileSheets, I can’t find the file. The corresponding folder appears empty.

If I create a new song and select Google Drive via the "+" button, it’s the same – the folder is empty.

In the browser on my PC, I can’t tell whether Google Drive saved the file correctly. Under file type, it says “unknown,” and it’s 11KB in size. I can’t see a file extension.
I suspect that the file I saved to Google Drive is damaged, which is why MobileSheets can’t find it.

What did work at least once: I received a file by email and was then able to upload the attachment to Google Drive.
Using the import function, I was able to load it into MobileSheets.

Creating a new song and loading it via the "+" and Google Drive didn’t work, but now I know: always use "Import" ?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I think I just found a workaround. If I put the song or songs into a setlist and send it via WhatsApp, then it works.
