[Bug] File sent from Companion to device does not work
#1
Exclamation
Hi,

just sent PDF 200 files to my device with Mobile Sheets Pro via Companion in a Batch transfer with a couple of hours of editing all the fields. Now I found out, that in Mobile Sheets something is broken, as I cannot open the lately sent files :-(   (while the previously existing files do still work fine).

But the app just says (see screenshot below):

File /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.zubersoft.mobilesheetspro/files/Edvard Grieg - Badnlat Lullaby - SATB/Edvard Grieg - Badnlat Lullaby - SATB.pdf does not exist.
I installed latest Companion, as well as latest Mobile Sheets Pro.

Interestingly, for some other files in a Setlist it says:
Unable to load page 1 for file /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.zubersoft.mobilesheetspro/files/Christnacht/Christnacht_20240926_0001.pdf

Here there is also an OK button. When I tap it, then the next file in the setlist pops up, with the same error.

Not sure if this is an issue, but I changed the Title of each song, so the folder and filename do not match obviously as seen in the error messages?

Thx for the idea.

Just tried it, but unfortunately the automatic fix resulted in 0 fixed paths. :-(

When I go to Settings -> Other Settings -> Find missing files... all of the broken files are listed. I just started to manually again find the files and update it by replacing the old by the new copy.

Hereby in the Swap File dialog it says for each existing (broken) file the date 1970-02-01. So it seems to me, that companion had an issue transferring the files correctly to the tablet?

You are most likely running an outdated version of the companion app, as automatic updates are not working below 4.0.4. Please download and install the latest version: https://www.zubersoft.download/MobileShe...panion.exe

If you were using the batch import feature, that was broken with earlier versions (sorry for any headaches that caused).

Thanks for your help in advance. I am a new user to MobileSheets paid (iPad) and also using companion (PC) to add sheets to my device. I ran into the same problem outlined about (though using the latest app version as well as the companion version). I was happy to just drag and drop my PDFs into the companion app, editting the fields of each as I add them to my device.

For files added through the companion, it states the file was not found at the folder, even though it exists in the iPad MobileSheets folder, and also found under the Find Missing Files link.

Any help in getting this feature to work? It would save me a ton of time.

Thanks,
Curtis

I just want to be clear on a few things. Is the following accurate?

1) You import files using the companion app by dragging & dropping them into the window and then saving the changes in the song editor dialog
2) You load a song using one of those files on the iPad and it states that the file is not found. The path listed in the error message points to the MobileSheets folder
3) The song can be see in the MobileSheets folder using the Files app and the file is not listed under Settings->Other Settings->Find Missing Files

If that is all true, can you please take a screenshot of the path listed in MobileSheets for the file? I'm not sure how it's possible for the file to be missing like that... If you go to Settings->Other Settings->Fix Broken File Paths and use the automatic option, does it repair the song so it loads properly? I'll run some tests to see if I can reproduce any issues. I just imported a file using the companion app and it was transferred to my iPad and loaded properly, so I'm really not sure what steps to take.

Thanks for the quick reply.
1) Yes. Drag and drop, the debug text on the iPad shows the file was received and saved.
2) Yes. Clicking on the file shows the black screen with the error text "does not exist" at the folder (folder location the same as in 1) when imported)
3) Yes (file shows up in the MobileSheets folder correctly when using the native iPad Files app) AND it shows up when using "Find Missing Files". Frustratingly, when I click the replace file option from this, it starts to work, shows a window that says it's working on it, but it hangs.

I also see that files imported this way has the pdf date set to 1970. Is it an issue with PC transfer to ios? Files permission with the app in iOs? I'll try it with different computers when I get home today.

I am glad that it's designed to work so smoothly, and hope I can get it to work. Thanks for the quick work on this!

What iOS version are you running on the iPad? It would help to know that as well.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks. iPad is updated to latest (iPad OS 18.4.1)

I tried the Companion from my Macbook, and it work fine. Just not from the PC (where all the PDFs are). Maybe I can try to restart the PC and the iPad.

Thanks.

Thanks again for your help. I've tested this problem with two other computers (Macbook Air and Windows 10) and it works fine. Seems like this problem only occurs with my home PC (Windows 11) where all the pdfs are stored.

Bummer.

That will definitely make it challenging to figure out what is happening... I'll have to think of things we can try.
