Import PDF Bookmarks to a specific collection
#1
Hi,
I was able to import a music book that had bookmarks for every song using the Import CSV or PDF Bookmarks feature.  So each song from the book was added to my library.  What I wanted to do was import each song and assign them to a collection, like the Book Name.  Instead I went through each song individually and assigned the collection manually.

From what I could see there was no way to do this type of import with bookmarks and assign all the songs to the same collection at the time of import.

One thread I saw said it was possible to first select collection and then import the pdf file with bookmarks and they will become a part of the selected collection. Before trying I wanted to confirm this, since there are over 300 songs.

Or, is the only way to use csv?

Thanks.

Update.

Well, I imported the bookmarked book with collection selected.  The thread saying to select a collection and then import did NOT assign the collection to the songs.  Oh well.   Using the collection feature I was able to display unassigned songs and then go through these and assign the collection name.

I have to do this again for two more books.

So my question now is, when there is a list of songs and I select one (a checked check box appears) and all the other songs have check boxes next to them how can a do a 'Select All'?   I had to select them all individually, then I was able to assign the collection to all the selected songs.

Thanks.

There is a floating dialog about two thirds down the page,  select the appropriate check box (it always seems to be the wrong way round to me)

You can filter by File Paths. In the Windows version you have to scroll down in the dropdown box as the number of visible entries is limited by Windows.

This is the floating dialog mentioned by Geoff:

Like Geoff I also struggled which one is the right one. A memory hook is: the checkboxes in the floating dialog symbolize the "same ones" in the list: The checked one stands for all checked boxes in the list, clicking it unselects all selected songs. Clicking the empty one selects all currently unselected songs.

I'm using the material design icon for select all (https://fonts.google.com/icons?icon.query=select+all), so that's not an icon I designed myself in case anyone is wondering. If people think it's more intuitive, I could change those out for the "Check Box" and "Check Box Outline Blank" icons (https://fonts.google.com/icons?icon.query=Check+Box).

IMHO there's no difference. The mnemonic trick that I mentioned helps / is required / fits in both cases, no matter if you change the icon or not.

Ah, good to here I'm not the only one to struggle to use (and remember) the right icon. Personally I would very much prefer the "check box blank" und "check box marked" approach and thought I already suggested it (or at least I wanted to for some time already).
