For practicing a part in a duet or ensemble, it would be useful if the playback screen included the option for a count in. This would:
1. Dismiss the playback panel.
2. Count in for the number of beats and at the rate of the tempo set in the "Signatures:" and "Tempos:" fields for the piece.
3. Begin playback.
If the above fields hadn't been set then use default values.

The referenced thread is discussing extending the capability of the metronome function, whereas I'm talking about the what happens when you play back an attached MP3 file. For a duo, that file would be the part you'd be playing along with. Having a count in means you can press play and have time to start the 1st note simultaneously with the played part.

A few other users have also asked for the ability to have a count-in for the audio player. I think I would prefer for the user just to set the number of seconds though (with support for a fractional value) versus requiring values in the signatures and tempos fields.

I my opinion, the only efficient functinality for this is having an exact tempo, and "exact tempo" (Audio Video Sync Meter) have to be extracted from the audio file...
Seem difficult...
If I had to start an audio file in synchronisation with a band, I added myself a count start in audio file.

I'd suggest allowing a number of seconds be specified (you could prime it with a default value), but fall back to the tempo and time signature field values if this is empty or zero.
As far as the other suggestion of adding to the audio file goes, that wouldn't work for me, since I'm just downloading audio files corresponding to the PDF files spat out by Sibelius.
